Young People Relate · Deptford, London

Hands-on support for young people and families across London

YPR works alongside families and young people already involved with children's social care. We are the bridge between the council and the community: one-to-one key working, accredited learning, safe transport and a calm place to be.

Referrals

How a referral works

Most of our work starts with a referral from children's social care, a school or a youth offending team.

  1. You get in touch

Send us a short referral enquiry. Please do not include the young person's name or details: we take those by phone.

  2. We call you back

A member of our team contacts you within 24 hours to talk it through.

  3. Support starts

We match the young person with a keyworker, agree a plan with you and the family, and report back as we go.

Our values

Our values: REACH

R.E.A.C.H. runs through everything we do. Our values were set with input from our whole community: staff, children and parents.

The thread through all of them is one word:TRY.

  1. Respect

Every young person is seen, heard and valued. We celebrate differences and listen without judgement.

  2. Empathy

Understanding begins with empathy. We make safe spaces where young people feel understood and never alone.

  3. Aspiration

Every young person can reach beyond their current circumstances. We help them set goals that mean something to them.

  4. Confidence

Confidence fuels independence. We praise progress and help young people trust their own voice and choices.

  5. Honesty

Honesty is the backbone of every healthy relationship. We keep conversations open and truthful, even when they are hard.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a referral?

Referrals come through children's social care. If you are a social worker, schools officer or part of a youth offending team, send us a referral enquiry and we will contact you within 24 hours. If you are a parent or carer, ask your social worker to get in touch with us.

Which areas do you work in?

We work with Hackney, Greenwich and Lewisham councils, from our hub in Deptford, south east London.

Do you offer support out of hours?

Yes. We run out-of-hours crisis support and a Diversion from Care scheme for the councils we work with. Details are in the council portal for approved council staff.

How can I support YPR?

You can give to our appeals, which pay for things like school uniforms, laptops and holiday hampers for families that social workers tell us are most in need.

Can my company get involved?

Yes. Companies already give us their time and resources. Tell us how you would like to help.
