AQA Unit Award Scheme: accredited learning at every young person's pace
We deliver the AQA Unit Award Scheme as part of our work with young people. Our Engagement Keyworkers run accredited sessions during regular support, so young people gain recognition for their skills and learning, whatever their starting point.

Why it matters
For many of the young people we support, formal education has felt out of reach or full of setbacks. Bite-sized, achievable units, in a space they trust, change what success looks like and build belief in their own potential.
Whether it is life skills, exploring careers, or creative and practical projects, the awards give young people:
- Real recognition for what they learn
- A sense of progress and achievement
- A lasting reminder that they can achieve more
Something that stays
Our work often happens at moments of crisis or change. A certificate is something lasting: proof that says "I did this". For many young people it is the first step back into education, training or employment.
How it works at YPR
Personal learning
Units are chosen to match each young person's needs, interests and ambitions.
Part of their sessions
Keyworkers deliver units during regular one-to-one support, from everyday tasks to wider goals.
A certificate every time
Each completed unit earns a certificate listing the knowledge, skills and understanding achieved.
Frequently asked questions
What is the AQA Unit Award Scheme?
The Unit Award Scheme (UAS) from AQA recognises short units of learning. Each time a young person completes a unit, they receive a certificate listing what they have achieved.
How is a Unit Award different from a traditional qualification?
A Unit Award is not a graded exam. It recognises a small, specific achievement, such as a practical or life skill, as soon as it is completed. That makes it a good first step for young people who have had setbacks in education, and a way back towards education, training or work.
How quickly do certificates arrive?
Certificates can be claimed regularly through the year. AQA issues them within 10 working days.
Can schools and colleges use the scheme?
Yes. If you would like to register or expand the Unit Award Scheme in your school or college, get in touch and we can tell you more.
